So I’m going to try something I’ve thought about but never done: a list of my ten favourite current songs, every week. I can’t see this being super-interesting to anyone but me, but considering this blog is full of my stupid opinions, this list offers a snapshot of what current* songs I’m listening to/watching the music video of/cry-singing along to/dancing around to this week. Thrilling! Better than the ARIA charts, anyway.

*Current means a recent single, a track on a recent album, or an old song being re-released or re-promoted or remixed (see this week’s number 10).

1. THE SATURDAYS All Fired Up

2. DARREN HAYES Bloodstained Heart

6. DEMI LOVATO Skyscraper

7. JAY-Z & KANYE WEST No Church In The Wild

8. NICOLA ROBERTS Beat Of My Drum

9. MELANIE C Think About It

Your Faves Could Never. Not Yet, Anyway: Yoko Ono, 78 Years Old And Number One

Legendary icon of my heart Yoko Ono is 78 years old, and is also currently number one on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Songs chart, which is usually the realm of veteran pop divas and pop divas who will one day be topping the chart as veterans, plus the occasional house DJ.

The track, ‘Move On Fast’, is from 1973 and is the latest in a long line of dance chart successes. This is her 16th dance hit, her 15th top 20, her 10th top 5, and her eighth – eighth – number one. Furthermore, ‘Move On Fast’ is Yoko’s sixth consecutive number one. I don’t know if she is the oldest person to ever top a Billboard chart (I don’t think she is because surely there would be a story on it if she was), but I do know that 78 is more than 25 years older than anyone who has ever topped the Hot 100.

Tonight, we drink for Yoko, and for many more decades of number one dance/club hits.
